NAFTA Re-Negotiations

SPESAIn keeping with promises made during the presidential campaign, the Trump administration has made forging and renegotiating free trade agreements (FTAs) in a manner that benefits U.S. workers, U.S. manufacturers, and U.S. exports a high priority in its trade policy. Chief among these promises was the commitment to address the 23-year-old North America Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) so that it better serves American manufacturing interests.

The NAFTA Re-Negotiations are underway with the first session being held in Washington, DC just last week. Speakers at the SPESA Executive Conference will present the views of the U.S. Textile/Apparel Industrys, the Brand Owners/Retailers, the Canadian Industry, and the Mexican Industry.

The United States has indicated that it will be aggressive in renegotiating the agreement – on many fronts. It's anticipate that the U.S. will be ambitious towards textiles and apparel - proposing major changes to rules of origin and market access provisions.
