TUKATECH Recognizes the Needs of its Customers to Deliver Fast Approvals

The challenges for today's apparel producers are demanding, and continue to become more intense lead times continue to shrink, and buzzwords like 'disposable fashion' and "5th season" have become more common. There is a definite need for all apparel producers to become more competitive in dealing with these 'crunch' time constraints. As a leader in constantly pushing the envelope to provide CAD/CAM systems in the design and development of apparel and related products, TUKATECH continues to make headlines in providing its customers with advancements that enhance the apparel production process.

Taking full advantage of its relationship with TUKATECH in utilizing its innovative solutions, Timex/Fergasam, an apparel technology leader in Sri Lanka, has become the world's first dress manufacturer to "go digital" with e-Fit digital samples. Timex/Fergasam makes millions of dresses per year for many brands in the USA and Europe in its 12 factories in Sri Lanka, including London Times, Suzi Chin, MUSE, Jessica Howard, PVH, K-Studio, Maggie London, Donna Morgan, Dorothy Perkins, C&A, Taifun, Wallis, and NEXT.Arshad Sattar, managing director of the Timex Group in Sri Lanka, noted, "The biggest challenge in dealing with all of these brands has been the need to develop numerous patterns quicker in order to get faster approvals. With the rising costs for high-end, complex dress styles, our company was actively seeking a workable solution."In 2006 to address this issue, Timex/Fergasam established 35 stations of TUKAcad for developing digital patterns.

And, this year the company also added e-fit Simulator by TUKA as a complement to the TUKAcad work stations, and the results were dramatic.Sattar stated, "After implementing e-fit Simulator by TUKA, our development time has been reduced from days and weeks, to just hours! Now, each pattern piece is developed and draped electronically. And, by seeing the actual fit in motion, we are able to adjust our patterns in record time and make one final sample that fits!"

The innovative thinking and support of the TUKATEAM didn’t stop here. There was still more do. One of Timex/Fergasam's key customers had a special request for making its quality samples even more convenient and efficient. Sattar explained, "Recently, one of our major customers in New York wanted to see the motion videos of her samples on her iPhone.

The TUKATEAM helped us to quickly deliver these files directly from our e-fit Simulator software. And, we are now getting fit comments from our customer while she is taking the train ride to her office. The interesting part is that we have been able to fix the digital sample and e-mail her before she even reaches her office!" The development of this innovative solution for Timex /Fergasam has resulted in TUKATECH taking another step forward in the world of digital communication. This appealing solution of delivering 3D Sample Movies via your iPhone and other mobile devices has made the approval process faster, and competing in the fast-paced fashion business much more efficient. As a result, many forward-thinking TUKATECH customers are also opting to send digital samples via e-mail with motion video attachments, showing approvers the fit, look, proto and final samples.

The Timex/Fergasam Group has proven its position at the forefront with these recent innovative developments. Therefore, it's not surprising that the company has been selected as the winner of the 2007 All Star Award, placing the company among the top 10 apparel manufacturers in the world. The All Star Awards are presented annually to 10 apparel industry high performers from across the globe by the Apparel Magazine, a leading US based apparel industry business-to-business publication. The winners are selected based on their innovation, excellence in management, a track record of growth, and their corporate goodwill within the industry.
